Who we are

“Anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!” 2 Corinthians 5:17

Our Pastor

Since 1993, Scott has been ministering in Baptist and Independent churches in Sydney, Canberra and the Hunter Valley as a pastor, associate pastor and a school chaplain. He has also spent a decade working as a social worker in different community organisations. In all the places where Scott has lived and worked, he loves none more than the Hunter, where four of his children have been born. Scott is a graduate of Morling College (the Baptist Theological College of NSW) and the University of Sydney. Scott has travelled overseas several times, and has a special love for overseas mission. Scott is married to Yvette, who is a Registered Nurse and Midwife, and mum to their nine children. Pastor Scott believes that because Jesus is “the same yesterday, today and forever” (Hebrews 13:8) and his message is one of enduring truth and his power to forgive and restore broken lives is as real today as it was 2,000 years ago. If you would like to speak to Scott about how faith in Jesus can make a difference in your life or find out more about our church, drop him a line at admin@hintonbaptist.church or call him on 0412 905 251.

A church rich in history and a love for Jesus.

Where Did we Come From?

Historical records show that a Baptist fellowship was active in the Hinton area by 1848 and that a Sunday School was operating. Initially they met in a home and later in a hall. Rev Phillip Lane joined the fellowship as its first Pastor in August 1856. Rev Lane, being a master-builder and brick-layer, soon oversaw the construction of the existing main building and also contributed his skills to the work. The building was formally opened on 16 July 1857 and at the time was the third Baptist Church building in Australia. Hinton Baptist Church has remained open for over 160 years and to this day is a vibrant and welcoming community of people who love Jesus.

Today we are a tight-knit and vibrant church community with a passion to serve Christ and love others. With a rich history deeply rooted within our church, we share a heart to pray and care for others and grow in our walks with Jesus.
